Twitter to Launch Photo Sharing Service

While Facebook intends to become ‘the king of the digital media’, rumours have been circulating around another social network, Twitter. In order to enhance user functionality, Twitter is said to be working on its photo sharing service.

In an effort to ease things up for its 175 million community (the most part of which is represented by users that are not tech savvy), the microblogging service is readying photo hosting, which will allow users to upload and share photos with friends as easily as possible (and which could also put services like Tweetpic and Yfrog out of work).

“Our user research shows that consumers continue to be confused by the different ways that a fractured landscape of third-party Twitter clients display tweets and let users interact with core Twitter functions,” noted Ryan Sarver, director of platform at Twitter.

He also emphasized that making the user experience simple as possible for a mediocre user is a key priority for Twitter.

The social media website itself has declined to comment the information. On June 1st, Twitter’s COO Dick Costolo is slated to present the news on the new enhancements in Twitter functionality.

«I’ve got no details on what exactly the photosharing URL shortener will be if any (Twitter has owned Twimg.com for a long time) or what the Twitter for Photos product will look like. Just that it’s coming, soon,» wrote Alexia Tsotsis in her article for Techcrunch. She added, «And if they’re smart they’ll put ads on it».
