Umbro is paying tribute to England’s World Cup football team in a unique and individual way. Umbro, the leading football equipment manufacturer, has commissioned creative agency Anomaly, London to place wall murals in the home town of each of the players on the team from England.
Each of the 22 players are celebrated by their number and colors of the squad as well as the colors of St. George’s Flag.
Umbro meant for the clever campaign to be a salute to each of the home towns and to tribute “the role these cities, towns and villages have had in shaping who the players are today”.
The campaign and tribute has been lauded for its brilliance. Phil Dean, managing director of creative services of Comunisis said, “This idea passes the ‘wish I’d bloody done that’ with flying colours. Not only did it get me to take a picture of the wall I passed, I googled it and then discovered one of the nicest and most footballest ideas I’ve seen for a long time.”
The team from England played their first match on June 12 against the United States.
The agency also created a World Cup ad for the brand.
