Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola Depict a Love Triangle in the Prada Candy L’eau Film

Continuing on the trend of tapping celebrated filmmakers for its commercials, Prada has collaborated with directors Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola to develop a series of vignettes to support the launch of its latest perfume, Prada Candy L’eau. The new campaign will be unveiled in three stages. The first three short 12-second clips have been just released and can be viewed below, three longer teaser spots are to follow later, each once a week, and then the final full-length commercial will arrive.

The new campaign is featuring French actress and model Lea Seydoux as “Candy,” the girl accompanied by two guys who are always around her. The love triangle seems to be quite sweet, but in the last spot of the first pool Candy asks, “How much longer can we possibly be so happy together?” The guys answer, “Who knows” and “Does it matter?”, but do they really think so? The vignettes are in French—obviously, to highlight the Amélie Poulain-style atmosphere,—and go with the English subtitles.

Prada Candy L’eau is the new variation of the original 2011’s Prada Candy scent. The notes of the new perfume include citrus, flowers, white musk, benzoin and caramel.

Lea Seydoux starred in the debut spot for the Candy fragrance back in 2011, where she was a way more passionate and even aggressive, screaming and fighting with a guy.

The duo of filmmakers have been collaborating on full-length feature films (The Darjeeling Limited, Moonrise Kingdom) as well as on commercial shoots. Together, they directed the “Apartomatic” ad for Stella Artois in 2010. Mr. Anderson alone has been behind a plethora of ad films for brands including IKEA, Hyundai, American Express, AT&T, and more.

In May 2012, Prada unveiled a hilarious 3-minute “physiological” ad film “A Therapy,” directed by Roman Polanski and starring Helena Bonham Carter and an Oscar winner Sir Ben Kingsley.
