Winners of 2009 Pack Expo Selects Competition are announced. This competition is a part of the Pack Expo 2009 Las Vegas exhibition which was held by PMMI in Las Vegas from Octiber 5 through October 7.
Packages were submitted by event’s exhibitors, and results are based on the on-site voting.
«Each of the three leading entries took its own approach to sustainability concerns. That in itself is a real indicator of the importance of the sustainability movement as a market driver,» said Ben Miyares, vice president, industry relations, PMMI.
The first place was given to a package of the product called Purex Complete 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets. It was developed by Robbie Flexibles for The Dial Corporation. The main feature of this solution is an irregular shape of the product and utilization of a Polyolefin shrink film. All images were printed on a film eliminating regular labels and raising the product’s sustainability.
The second place winner is a package of Body Glove Water Filtration — water filters from Water Inc. It was created by Printpack, Inc. The complicated design of a product made a paper label difficult to wrap around it. So the label was made from a PLA film.
And the third place was given to a package of the prepared barbeque meats line called Lloyd’s from Hormel Foods developed by Airlite Plastics Co. The primary innovation is the utilization of the IML (in-mold labeled) container and lid.
