On November 30, German division of WWF introduced new green file format dubbed exactly as the name of the nature-saving organization—WWF. The green idea behind this file type is that any file saved as .wwf cannot be printed, thus, providing more protection for trees all over the world.
The developers introduced an online destination at www.saveaswwf.com where users can learn more about the new format as well as the way they can avoid unnecessary printing and contribute into the purpose of saving trees. So far wwf software is available for MacOS only, but according to the developers, Windows version is coming soon.
They encourage users all over the world to download free software, save as more files as possible as .wwf and send them out by e-mail to other users in order to spread the word about the new file format.
«Each tree that’s cut down means that another layer of environmental protection is lost. In cooperation with the Jung von Matt advertising agency, we’ve created a tool that makes it easy for everyone to contribute to saving our forests: a file format that can’t be printed out. This helps lower the demand for paper from plantations«, project developers say.
On the date of the .wwf file format launch, Triodos Bank and Suncycle, Inc. joined the initiative by WWF and pledged to promote the format among their employees and partners.
