With two new online projects dubbed “Lives with M” and “Stories with M,” McDonald’s Portugal is going backstage and unveiling some details of its corporate life by telling success stories of its current and former employees. The idea to launch the project roots in the company’s commitment to provide younger generation with a chance to make the first step in their business career and achieve significant results either within the chain or in other areas. Want to see real people who succeeded on a professional or personal level by working for McDonald’s? Here they are.
The developers decided to split one project into two parts, which revolve around the same theme—rising with McDonald’s. Today, the Portuguese division of the company has 132 restaurants and employs about 6,300 people across the country. One of the platform, “Lives with M” (“Vidas com M”) provides visitors with basic information on working conditions, training and development, as well as career opportunities within the chain. The hub features photos and bios of 12 current employees (ranging from a coordinator of the team to a director) along with a list of their likes, quotes, and other information that help learn more about their personality, not just a position they take at the company. “McDonald’s gives me stability and I know that if you continue to do work well, you’ll succeed. I enjoy being here. It’s my ‘home’,” says Soraya Kalil, a 20 year-old manager, who started working for the chain four years ago.
The second hub, “Stories with M” (“Histórias com M”), unveils biographies of people, who have worked for the company for some time, but then chose another direction. So far, it features just one profile, the one of Susana Anágua, 34-year old artist, who graduated in Fine Arts from the College of Technology, Management, Art and Design Caldas da Rainha and has a MA in Digital Art at the College of Arts Camberwek London. She worked at McDonald’s restaurant in Vila Franca de Xira, between 1996 and 2004, and now tells how this contributed to her life. This story comes in a video format, which adds to this documentary atmosphere of the project. A bunch of new stories of success will appear on the website in 2011.
