adidas Celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Its Hip-Hop Anthem with a New Pack

It’s quite a usual thing for brands to release festive or commemorative editions when it comes to some big dates or holidays like the Royal Wedding or Christmas or any other notable occasion. But adidas decided to go further and created a new pack to pay tribute to a song—Run-DMC’s 1986 track My adidas, which has become the anthem of the sneaker brand. To pay tribute to the song about the iconic sneaker, which is celebrating 25th anniversary this year, the brand is releasing DMC x adidas Superstar ‘My adidas’ sneaker, which will cost $150, in just a few days—on 11.11.11 at 11 am PST at Shopadidas.com, adidas Originals Stores, and select adidas accounts.

The new sneakers based on classic shelltoes styling are just the same as described in the hip-hop hit—“My adidas only bring good news\ and they are not used as selling shoes\ they’re black and white, white with black stripe\ the ones I like to wear when I rock the mic.” In addition to the white and black leather striping, they have a huge black 1986 inscription on the side and a gold ‘dookie chain’ lace locks on the front. In addition to this, the brand has also created a 1986 graphic T-shirt ($35.00), a 1986 track top ($80.00), and a 1986 track pant ($70.00) to be released along with the sneaker. adidas has also created special laces and a collectible box all in style of the new pack.

According to www.sneakerfiles.com, the brand is going to release only 1,986 pairs of the shoes, which is extremely little considering how many consumers would like to get their DMC x adidas Superstar ‘My adidas’ sneaker. By the way, the jeanswear brand Lee, which is also mentioned in the song, hasn’t yet prepared anything to mark the anniversary—and most probably, it won’t.
