adidas introduced two new videos of its Campaign ‘Fast Don’t Lie’ featuring Orlando Magic player Dwight Howard and Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose. These animated ads were produced by 180LA in cooperation with Stardust.
The videos represent a unique, stylistic journey using the thoughts of Dwight Howard and Derek Rose. As for the visual side, it combines dynamic animations that turn into real-life videos. This technique was inspired by the A-ha video «Take On Me», as said by Stardust.
«The brief was to create a unique, stylistic journey using the thoughts of Dwight Howard and Derek Rose. The Agency, 180 LA, asked us to explore any and all options to bring it to life, and to consider multiple illustration styles to find the one that best fit both the Adidas brand and D-Rose’s and Dwight’s personalities», Stardust representative said.
The idea to create a campaign for a sport brand based on animation seems fresh. However, Adidas is not the first to do this. Back in 2010, Puma Worldwide sponsored the production of an animated movie depicting the story of Roger Milla and his return to the Cameroon national team during the 1990 World Cup. Also, on November 2010, Nike introduced interactive graphic story of the legendary American track-and-field team, Athletics West, on its website.
