BMW Runs Urban Driving Experience Challenge in Search of Its 2025 Vehicle

In search of ideas and visuals of what its future vehicles would look like, BMW continues its Urban Driving Experience Challenge and announces the next stage of the contest to kick off in November.

The first contest launched in the end of September in collaboration with crowdsourcing company Local Motors of Phoenix and runs through October 16.

Entrants can submit their ideas keeping in mind the “impending lifestyle shifts in the urban environments.” The ideas should be realistic; cars that can be manipulated telepathically are not accepted. Participants have to take into account that urbanization has been only increasing since 2007, while infrastructure is constantly changing and environmental pollution is still a big issue to deal with.

Today, 280 million people live in so called Megacities, which are urban areas with a total population in excess of 10 million people. This fact defines another rule for the invention of the future BMW car—mobility.

To enter participants have to submit a design sketch and can amplify their idea with a video or animated GIF.

The No.1 winner will receive $7 500 and a trip to Munich to meet with the BMW Group director of research and development. Nine runner-ups will share another $7500 and will also travel to Germany. In total, $30,000 in prize money will be awarded for the both challenge phases.

It’s interesting what the future BMW’s Mini will look like. Mini positions itself as the automaker that produces outstanding vehicles for original people now runs the ‘Not Normal’ campaign.
