Coca-Cola’s PlantBottle ™ Awarded for Packaging Innovation

The innovative environmentally conscious PlantBottle brought home top honors for The Coca-Cola Company recently. Coca-Cola’s PlantBottle ™ was given the gold award, out of more than 160 entrants from across the world, at the 22nd Annual Global DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation.

The ingenious bottle is made up of 30 percent plant-based material making it the first of its kind – a 100 percent recyclable beverage package. With this incredible innovation, Coca-Cola is able to reduce its reliance on nonrenewable resources. Preliminary research indicates that the carbon footprint of PlantBottle packaging is an improvement over that of traditional PET bottles.

«Our journey has only just begun, but the initial success we have seen in the marketplace along with highly credible recognition like this from DuPont show that we are making progress and delivering packaging innovation in response to consumers, customers and our franchise insights and business needs,» said Scott Vitters, PlantBottle Business Lead, The Coca-Cola Company.

The PlantBottle was first introduced to the public in Denmark in 2009. It is now available in a variety of packaging sizes in Coca-Cola’s sparkling and still beverage line in the United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Brazil and Norway.
