Converse is going on celebrating aspiring indie bands, which want to make it really huge on the national stage. The brand, known for its dedication to youth and music, has launched its third annual “Get Out of the Garage” contest in collaboration with Journeys, a U.S. retailer for teen footwear and accessories. The submission period closes today, November 12, and Monday they the voting kicks off.
Groups of all musical styles and genres are competing for a chance to be featured in a six-day tour, which will start rolling at the Rolling Stone venue (Austin, TX) in March 2011 and then will arrive in Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Washington, DC, and NYC. The grand winner will be performing alongside a celebrated music star (whether it will a man, women or a band is yet to be unveiled). The most voted group also will receive $10,000 in equipment from Guitar Center and will be invited to record at the Converse Rubber Tracks music studio in NYC.
November 15-December 15, visitors to the project’s page will decide which 100 bands are worth to be struggling for the victory. Then, the judging panel of Converse, Rolling Stone, Guitar Center and Journeys representatives will shortlist them all to ten semi-finalists, and ask public to vote for these groups to determine the winner—the second round of fan voting will be running from January 5-20. The runners-up will also have a chance to boost their careers by spreading the word about themselves plus will be awarded with gift certificates from the sponsors.
This initiative joined the range of other Converse’s projects focused on young music talents—the latest of them are Converse Rubber Tracks recording studio in New York and Original Band hunt in India.
