Coty Beauty Reveals Halle Berry’s «Closer» Fragrance, Which Combines Masculine and Feminine Features

A Hollywood beauty and Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry unveiled her new fragrance, launched by Coty Beauty. The new scent “Closer” for her is all about a play of opposites, as it combines the traditional masculine and feminine accords and is unveiled in a bottle, which resembles the contours of the male and female body. The fragrance from Halle, which is developed to allure both men and women, is set for the global launch in September.

I wanted to create a unique fragrance for women that would also appeal to men. Scent is very closely linked with desire and attraction and I love the idea that a fragrance can bring a man and a woman together. Closer creates a new level of intimacy through the power of scent,” comments Halle Berry.

The key idea behind this product was two merge two biggest opposites of our world, yin and yang, in a one bottle. In the new fragrance, these two components are represented by a blend of violet flowers and mimosa (for the feminine part) and fougere (for the masculine part), carefully mixed by master perfumer Jacques Cavallier. The base notes of warm wood are embraced by lighter and delicate floral accords, just like a women hugs a man. “A woman should wear this whenever she wants to feel sexy,” commented Halle on her new product.

To highlight its two-component nature, this “modern, sexy, versatile, yet timeless,” fragrance goes in a bottle, which also combines the feminine and masculine features—the curves, which mimic a female body, can be seen inside a prism-shaped minimalistic bottle. The theme of closeness between the two opposites is also reflected in the advertising campaign, shot by photographer Alexei Hay and directed by Francis Lawrence. In the prints, Halle is standing a white shirt and suspenders, while bare, muscular male arms are holding her tight from behind.
