Following the ‘slim’ beverages trend, Dr Pepper Snapple Group has added its five sodas—7Up, A&W, Canada Dry, RC and Sunkist—to its Ten portfolio of soft drinks that have only 10 calories per 12-oz. serving.
The sodas come after Pepper Ten launched in October. Now, the new varieties are being tested in Columbus, Ohio; Des Moines, Iowa and central Pennsylvania, says the Ad Age. The test involves a 30-second spot, outdoor, radio, sampling and in-store marketing.
Though the new spot called ‘Couple’ features only 7Up, in the closing shot it shows off all of the new brands. In the spot created by McGarry Bowen, a couple drinking 7Up is shown in a humorous way. ‘Great Taste, 10 Calories, Get Both,’ comments a voice. The test will run through midyear, and then the company will decide whether to roll out the products nationally.
Recently, PepsiCo has unveiled its Pepsi Next low-calorie soda. The reason is consumers’ health-concern and their wish to cut calories, while enjoying the favorite tastes. The target audience of the updated Ten platform are men and women ages 25 to 49, while Dr Pepper Ten was aimed to reach calorie-conscious 25 to 34-year-old men.
«There exists pent-up demand for better-tasting lower-calorie products,» reported Bill Pecoriello, CEO of Consumer Edge Research. «Our research suggests that a mid-calorie cola could drive incremental volume for carbonated soft drinks, as interest levels were highest among weekly consumers of energy drinks, enhanced and flavored water, ready-to-drink tea, sports drinks and juice drinks.»
