Facebook reached the mark of 500 million active users yesterday, and to celebrate this important milestone the most popular social-media website is launching an application called Facebook Stories for users to share their unique life stories with the world.
Facebook invites everyone from the half a billion community to join the movement and tell about their life-changing situations (related to Facebook in some way) to inspire or guide others (in a serious or entertaining tone) and help them find a better solution to their own problems. There are several sections (including «Family,» “Politics,” “Peace,” “Sports,» «Love,» and many more), which makes it easy to explore the stories and find the ones you are interested in. There is also a world map with dots, and by clicking on them, users can read inspirational texts from all the contributors from this location.
Among those, who already uploaded their stories there is Ben Saylor, “a 17-year-old high school student, who turned to Facebook to organize a community effort to rebuild the Pioneer Playhouse, the oldest outdoor theater in Kentucky, after it was damaged by floods in May” and Holly Rose, “a mother in Phoenix, who credits a friend’s status message telling women to check for breast cancer with her being diagnosed in time to treat the disease. She used Facebook for support during treatment and became a prevention advocate herself.” These examples were picked out by Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, and appeared in his post, published on the corporate page yesterday, July 21.
Joining the Facebook Stories club is as easy as ABC—you just select a category from the drop-down menu and share your real and worthy experiences with the world. Who knows, maybe, this very example will become a life buoy for someone else.
