Facebook Deepens Partnership with eBay and Adds ‘Want’ and ‘Own’ Buttons

Facebook has deepened its partnership with eBay to push up ‘f-commerce’, which will soon result in new ‘social verbs’. 180 major clients of GSI Commerce, owned by eBay will be able to implement ‘Want’ and ‘Own’ to a wide range of its products.

Clients include American Eagle Outfitters, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Calvin Klein, and Bath & Body Works. According to eBay, the 100,000 retailers worldwide on its Magento e-commerce platform will also have access to the social buttons.

Thus, if viewers log into a retailer site using Facebook, their ‘Want’ and/or ‘Own’ click data will be available to both the social site and the merchant. The retailer can use the data to target offers on its site, the source said, but it cannot be used for retargeting or transferred to third parties, says Clickz. Earlier this fall, Facebook has upgraded its Pages Insights analytics tool and added a new unit to evaluate the effectiveness of a page called ‘Premium Ad Product’.

There will be more ‘social verbs’ on Facebook such as Reading, Watching, and Listening, while the Want and Own buttons are more merchant-tailored and aimed to inform them with purchase intent.

Today is the last day eBay is running its X.commerce conference in San Francisco launched on October 12. The event marks the official launch of the company’s new X.commerce division, which will target e-commerce software developers, says Reuters.

Both companies have a partnership that allows the purchase of Facebook self-serve ads and Facebook Credits using PayPal, eBays payment system that was just upgraded to offer a new service. The service will let users shop across the Web using just their PayPal email credentials and password and there will be no need in typing the credit card information, billing and shipping addresses etc.
