Two years ago when Facebook reached the number of 500 million users, it launched a Facebook Stories app. Now, when the number of users is 950 million, a separate web site invites them to view, read and share their stories with each other. Each month a new topic will emerge.

This month, the focus is on stories about memories. Facebook has filmed a story of Mayank Sharma, a 29-year-old man from New Delhi, India, who lost his entire memory after tubercular meningitis. After the recovery, Sharma used Facebook’s People You May Know feature to remember his past and experienced success. His memory hasn’t returned but the social contributions helped to track back his past life.

Another story is about a group of people who are “tapping into the community’s collective memory” to save thePetrieBuilding which has been a fixture inGuelph since 1917. Via Facebook, more than 400 members shared their memories and ideas on how to save the building.

There is also a Bookshelf featuring a Goodreads list of books that offer more information month’s theme. This month, author Joshua Foer shares several titles that helped him improve his memory and win the U.S. Memory Championship, which he described in his 2011 book, Moonwalking with Einstein.

The Facebook Stories features a Spotify Playlist offering different genres of music curated by inspiring artists. And the Reading List allows users access to the archives of some of the world’s best storytellers like The New Yorker, which this month shares with people the process of remembering from different angles.

Users can stay connected to Facebook Stories by liking its Page on Facebook or subscribing to a monthly podcast on iTunes.
