Facebook to Become Premier Online Destination for Music and Media

The most rapidly growing social network in the world has outgrown itself and eyes for other expansion opportunities out there. In this tough world of disagreement, where you go to YouTube for videos and visit iTunes to download some music, Facebook is looking into expanding its role and establishing itself as a premier destination for music, TV programs and media—all in one place. Which is quite realistic, given the size of its network.

According to adweek.com, the company is now developing new features that would allow for music and media sharing among the Facebook users. Spotify, a U.K. -based company speacializing on music sharing in the digital space, is reported to have been working alongside Facebook on creating new tabs to display a user’s frequently played songs and will offer an opportunity to listen to them.

Anonymous sources familiar with the matter have also reported that Facebook is developing the similar functions for sharing news, TV content and other media, which will significantly boost the value of the networking experience for Facebook users.

To date, Facebook and Mr. Zuckerberg has refused to provide official comments. «We’re always looking for better ways to help people discover the most relevant content on Facebook but have nothing to announce,» the official statement from Facebook reads.

«Listening to music is something that people do with their friends. Music, TV, news, books — those types of things I think people just naturally do with their friends. I hope we can play a part in enabling those new companies to get built, and companies that are out there producing this great content to become more social,» said Mark Zuckerberg.

As reported recently, Google-owned YouTube, an online resource specializing in publishing video content, has announced strong growth ambitions. In April, YouTube launched live streaming service, and later promised to include TV and unique entertainment content to lure TV viewers.
