Google Announces its 4th Annual Doodle 4 Google Competition

On Wednesday Google announced the fourth annual round of its ‘Doodle 4 Google’ project. This is a drawing contest which provides K-12 students with the opportunity to win a $15,000 scholarship and a $25,000 technology grant for their school. The task for the students is to create their own version of Google page that corresponds the theme of competition using a plethora of drawing tools.

From now and until March 2nd, candidates may submit their creative works at the virtual hub of the project at www.google.com/doodle4google/ where they may learn more about the contest rules and prizes.

This year, Google introduced several ammendments to the contest rules to facilitate registration process and make the project available to more people. First of all, parents may register their kids. Also, since Google has established cooperation with two US after School Programs: Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Girl Scouts of the USA, students participating in those programs may register through them.

The theme of this year’s competition “What I’d like to do someday…” inspires the participants to start thinking of their tomorrow today.

«We know this crop of students will be the generation of tomorrow’s leaders and inventors, and we can’t wait to see what they come up with», Marissa Mayer, VP, Consumer Products wrote in The Official Google Blog.

This year, the works will be judged by a variety of guest judges: Whoopi Goldberg (actress/comedian/TV show host), Jim Davis, (creator of «Garfield»), and Evan Lysacek ( gold medalist for ice skating) as well as other award-winning cartoonists and illustrators.
