Google Science Fair on the Lookout for Young Einsteins and Curies

Today, on January 11, Google silently started one of its tremendous online projects that is sure to make a lot of buzz on the Inet in the near future. Google Science Fair, a new online competition, was announced earlier today. By running it, the Internet giant aims to discover young and promising scientific talents in all areas of science.

According to the terms of the competition, only young students aged 13 to 18 may present their ideas for the contest. The task is to plan a project, conduct an experiment in course of it and document its results by using a plethora of digital tools offered by Google (for instance, shoot and upload a video demonstrating the essence of the experiment or make a 20-slide presentation). The deadline for the project is April 04, 2011. In early May 60 semi finalists from all over the world will be announced and their projects will be posted online to participate in online public voting for a “People’s Choice Award”.

On July 11, the final ceremony will take place at Google’s Headquarters in California. This time the works by finalists will be judged by a number of acclaimed Nobel Prize Laureates, tech experts and representatives of household brands.

Now, the most pleasant part. The Grand Prize winner(s) and one of their parents or a guardian will be awarded with a 10 day trip to the Galapagos Islands with National Geographic Expeditions. In case the grand prize will be awarded to a group, the winners will receive USD 50, 000 in cash, and will have to share this sum. This scholarship is intended to be used towards the finalists’ further education.

Also, because Google Science Fair initiative is supported by such world-famous companies as CERN, the LEGO Group and Scientific American, a winner(group winners) will be entitled to visit their offices and even get a chance of internship with one of the mentioned organizations.
