Hyundai’s «Think Smart. Live Smart» Sustainable Adverts

Hyundai Canada is promoting its environmentally friendly cars with a series of commercials, developed in an eco-minded way as well. Following its “Think Smart. Live Smart” philosophy, the auto manufacturer commissioned Toronto-based Innocean Worldwide Canada to develop ‘sustainable’ commercials for its Sonata Turbo, Tucson and Sonata Hybrid models. The result is really worth seeing.

The creative team behind the production process was heavily inspired by the ecological commitments of the brand and so used wind and solar energy to power generators supplying energy for the machines, LED and low-power lighting and bicycle generators to move the artificial landscape. Though there is a strong feeling that the car was being driven, it wasn’t even started—the motion in the spots is all ‘hand-made’ with minimal carbon footprint.

According to Strategyonline.ca, the making of the adverts resulted in emissions of only 0.35 metric tons of carbon dioxide and 45 kilograms of garbage—if the spots have been shot in a traditional way, they would have ‘produced’ around 8.83 metric tons of CO2 and 1,524 kilos of trash.

«Hyundai’s marching mantra is ‘finding efficiency,’ which motivates us to find a smarter way of doing business,» says Chad Heard, PR manager, Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. «We thought about the efficiency of our cars and our commitment to become the industry leader in fuel economy, we thought about our own push to become more socially responsible in the projects we undertake, so, we took this philosophy from the boardroom to television sets across Canada

The adverts were first released in September and will be airing until the end of November. Hyundai also launched a new YouTube page and is now purchasing one metric tone of carbon offsets for every 600 people who view videos on this channel, which has been already visited by nearly 140,000 Internet users (so far, 228 tons of carbon offset was bought).
