Louis Vuitton Brings Art to Babies

‘Art for Baby’ is the title of the book and art exhibition presented by Louis Vuitton on January 19 at Espace Louis Vuitton in Hong Kong. The event is aimed at promoting the book by Yana Peel, a founder of OUTSET Contemporary Art Fund,  and is created in an effort to cultivate visual skills and ability to perceive visual art in babies.

The idea of creating the book for babies came to Yana as she once noticed her baby staring at the black-and-white painting by Julian Opie hanging on the wall. Afterwards, she consulted the experts in child development and decided to create a book for babies containing the black and white images of contemporary art. She found out that babies are born without an ability to differentiate tones although they can see colors. So, the book contains black-and-white or very bright multicolor images.

‘Art for Baby’ is a collection of paintings by Josef Albers,  Damien Hirst, Gary Hume, Kasmir Malevich, Paul Morrison, Takashi Murakami, Julian Opie, Bridget Riley and David Shrigley. Most of the above-mentioned artists donated their works to creators of the book.

The ‘Art for Baby’ exhibition is on show at LV’s flagship store the Espace Louis Vuitton Hong Kong. Visitors to the exhibition may see the enlarged versions of the paintings by the mentioned artists who contributed to the book creation. The exhibition is a part of the book launch campaign in Asia and is aimed at raising funds for OUTSET Contemporary Art Fund.
