Microsoft Calls Attention to Online Scams

It is quite easy to be a victim of online scams and Microsoft wants everyone to be aware. In a new campaign for Internet Explorer 8, the computer technology corporation creates an awareness of this epidemic of scams internationally.

Microsoft will debut the campaign with a commercial Monday night during Lie to Me and Good Guys from the Fox Network. The commercial shows people in New York City being asked to provide outrageously personal information to open a new account and receive $500. The advertisement, created by Crispin Porter + Bogusky can be seen on the Internet Explorer 8 homepage.

Senior director of Internet Explorer, Ryan Gavin, explained that the campaign is meant to educate and create an awareness about security online and to show how Internet Explorer 8 can help protect people. «People talk about security, but they don’t think about it until something bad happens. That’s why the focus of the campaign is malware (malicious software) and how quickly that can become a risk to your online identity,» stated Gavin.

There is also planned a digital component to the campaign for Internet Explorer 8 that will be very similar to the television commercial. It is not know when this part of the campaign will happen.

This campaign is an extension of the ongoing campaign «Confidence» by Microsoft. “Browse with confidence” is the theme of that campaign.
