Microsoft is getting ready for its big Windows 8 roll out later this year. The tech giant has decided to fully upgrade its OS, even the logo.

With its client roster including such companies as Nissan and Walgreens, the Pentagram firm has done the redesign. So, now we have an unusually blue logo with clean lines aimed to correspond to Windows 8’s new Metro interface. With its ‘flag’ catching the attention, the graphic image still sticks to Windows past logos. Though, now its not a flag anymore, its ‘windows’ in perspective, which is, Microsoft considers to be “a metaphor of computing.”
Windows 8 is expected to be absolutely different from any previous version of Windows OS. It may seem a little bit too simple but Microsoft is satisfied with Pentagram’s vision.
“We wanted the new logo to be both modern and classic by echoing the International Typographic Style (or Swiss design) that has been a great influence on our Metro style design philosophy. Using bold flat colors and clean lines and shapes, the new logo has the characteristics of way-finding design systems seen in airports and subways,” writes Sam Moreau, Principal Director of User Experience for Windows on the company team’s blog.
