Only the most confident would challenge Porsche to a race but that is exactly what MINI is doing. MINI USA has launched a Facebook page challenging the iconic racing giant to a race and Porsche is taking the challenge serious.

«Porsche has the most racing victories of any manufacturer out there — 28,000 and counting — maybe we should go for 28,001,» Steve Janisse, Porsche’s Media Relations Manager, told Jalopnik. «We just need to see what they’re up to.»

MINI USA proposed the race to take place two weeks from now at the Road Atlanta course between MINI’s Cooper S model and Porsche’s 911 Carrera S. Simple logic shows that the 172-horsepower Cooper S has no chance against the 385-horsepower Porsche 911 but to be mentioned in the same statement as Porsche may be all that MINI is really looking for.

Jim McDowell, MINI USA President (and formerly of Porsche) wants Detlev von Platen, President of Porsche USA to meet him on June 21st at Road Atlanta and bring the drivers of their choice. The wager at stake will be that McDowell, if MINI loses, will wear a shirt stating that Porsche is faster than the MINI.
