M&M’s Keeps to the British Colour Scheme

The originally American brand M&M’s turned British in a new promotion dedicated to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, which start this weekend. The brand launched a new TV advert dubbed ‘Union Jack,’ which celebrates the British spirit and pays tribute to the colours of the national flag.

The commercial, which was created by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, was first aired on Sunday, May 27, and will be running for four weeks. The spot features two M&M’s characters, skeptical and snobbish Red and Yellow, which is trying to prove its ‘britishness’ and get accepted by ‘the flag team,’ the especial edition pack. Yellow tries on a plethora of outfits including the punk, sport fan and even a morris dancer ones, which are associated with multifaceted British culture, but he fails every time. The thing is that yellow is not in the British flag, so however hard he tries, nothing works. In the end of the commercial, the voiceover explains “Red, white and blues only, sorry yellow.”

The promotion is also running on the M&M’s UK Facebook page, where they have posted the advert. Recently, the brand has been offering free samples of the celebration package to its fans, but now the giveaway is closed. To promote the pack, M&M’s has also teamed up with X Factor winners in the UK, girls band Little Mix, who posed along with the new candies at the M&M’s World store in Leicester Square earlier this month.
