Moscow Design Week 2010, October 5-9

This year, on October 5-9, Moscow City will host the major event in the design industry — the Moscow Design Week 2010 for the first time.

It is not by chance that holding company ART TRADING GROUP that is celebrating its 20th birthday this year initiated and is the organizer of the first Moscow Design Week. Over all of these years, the group was promoting design and was building a civilized consumer environment. The group was the first to in-vite the stars of the global design to visit Russia, and it is thanks to their efforts that the Moscow public was introduced to the designs of the famous furniture factories during the late 90-s.

“We want the visitors of Moscow Design Week to learn more about design and its forms, as well as get the esthetic and intellectual enjoyment.” — said Alexander Fedotov, Head of ART TRADING GROUP and the President of Moscow Design Week. — “We plan to turn Moscow into one of the global venues for the most innovative and the “sharpest” design from around the world.”

Moscow Design Week will engage the entire city: from Manezh to Luzhniki. The activities will cover Pre-chistenka, Ostozhenka, French Wharf, and Komsomol Avenue. Exhibitions, presentations of the Russian and foreign projects, festivals and contests, movie shows and round tables will be organized at the factory buildings, furniture show rooms, museums and exhibition halls, educational  institutions and even movie theatres. The two main sites will be ex-Proviantskie warehouses and former confectionery factory Krasnyi Oktyabr (Red October). Prominent western designers including Paola Navone, Fabio Novembre, Paolo Pininfarina and others will take part in the activities of Moscow Design Week.

During Moscow Design Week a single design route will link the 30 best Moscow showrooms, galleries, and saloons presenting the design aficionados with various surprises ranging from unconventional design of window displays and interiors, music and culinary delicacies to special cultural and entertainment program events. It is for the first time that the untutored spectator will be able to make the impression about all the new and progressive features in design just by visiting the participating addresses. There will be organized Design Points — mini-installations, stand-alone designs, and art objects that will signal to the city residents that something unusual is going on in the area. A few lucky ones will be able to look behind the design curtains and into the design studios, architecture bureaus that will open their doors to the guests, present their new works, and introduce the visitors to the professional life in design. Organized in more than 50 restaurants, cafeterias, and cinemas Info Points will provide map-guides, information about the events, and catalogues to all those interested in the event.

Under the auspices of the National Committee for Organization Of France-Russia Year 2010 there will be organized the first exhibition of furniture and décor Art de vivre à la française – The Art Of Living The French Way, a branch of the Paris Maison & Objet (organized by UbiFrance Agency and Safi Company). The exhibition will take place in Manezh and will include works of 160 best French factories working in the sphere of furniture and décor. Meanwhile, during Moscow Design Week the Crocus Expo exhibition center will host the sixth exhibition of Italian furniture I Saloni WorldWide Moscow (organized by Cosmit S.p.a.) that will feature over 350 Italian manufacturers.

Project 02..2..20

Festival of the young designers and students called Project 02..2..20 (supervised by Elena Gonzalez) will take place at one of the sites of Moscow Design Week. The name reflects the three parts of the exposition that include the design objects depending, literally, on how close of a shell do they create for a person: 02 (meters) — clothes and accessories; 2 (meters) — furniture, interior and leisure elements;
20 (meters) — municipal and landscape objects.

Project EXIST

Within the framework of EXIST Project designers and students at Moscow Architectural Institute will try to give an answer to EXISTance questions: what is the place of people in the interior and garden, what environment is most comfortable to different people – for a couple in love, families with kids, groups of friends, and even for pets. In other words: Is Love a Part of Plan?
The design will not stand aside even from the first night of the grand circus show Cirque du Soleil, that will take place during the Moscow Design Week: the interior and VIP-zones Tapis Rouge will be
designed with the highest level of sophistication of the Altagamma Design Gallery.
