Never text while drive: shocking 35-minute documentary by Werner Herzog explains why

The acclaimed German film director Werner Herzog has shot a thought-provoking and rather brutal documentary that highlights the dangers of texting and driving. The 35-minute film “From One Second To The Next”, sponsored by AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon, combines real stories of the people who had been affected in the car accidents caused by texting while being behind the wheel.

Over 100,000 accidents a year in the U.S. involve drivers using their cell phones to text. The documentary narrates the emotional stories of both people who caused the tragedy and the victims of the car accidents. The piece, which has been already viewed over 1.3 million times on YouTube, will also be distributed to more than 40,000 high schools, safety organizations and government agencies across the USA and to raise awareness about the horrifying consequences of texting while driving.

The film is also available on AT&T’s ItCanWait.com website, which explores the problem and encourages the audience to take the pledge: “No text is worth the risk. It can wait.” The visitors can also view infographics, share their stories and download handy apps from AT&T and Verizon that allow to stay focused behind the wheel.

The project is focused primarily at youger people as now teens on average text five times more a day than adults. Statistics reads that 75% of teenagers confess texting and driving is common among their peers.

“There was always a guiding principle. What we are doing has to do with a campaign, and the campaign is very, very simple: Don’t text and drive,” commented Werner Herzog on the project. “The consequences are catastrophic, and the statistics are appalling. This campaign certainly comes at the right time. It had to be done. Everything else is of secondary importance.”
