Nike Running ‘Festival of Sport’ in Shanghai

Yesterday, Nike started a four-day sports festival for the young people of Shanghai to experience the power of sport. The sportswear giant invited top athletes LeBron James, Liu Xiang and Paul Rodriguez and many others stars to participate.

The ‘Festival of Sport,’ held at Shanghai Stadium August 1821, features access to a variety of activities from basketball to football, tennis to skateboarding. The aim of festival is to tell young people that anyone can use sports to improve their lives.

The festival is the culmination of the summer-long Just Do It campaign in China created to inspire a new generation of athletes to unleash the power of sports. Festival offers young athletes a great opportunity to compete in basketball and football tournaments, get a personal instruction to improve their golf swing, train in skateboarding on a custom-built indoor park. Ladies athletes can participate in the Nike Women’s Training Club workouts. The festival also includes concerts by national pop stars.

“During the past 30 years, it has been Nike’s mission to serve Chinese athletes, to cultivate a positive sports culture throughout the country and help young athletes here develop into future super stars,” said Craig Cheek, Vice President and General Manager of Nike Greater China. “The Festival of Sport is an unforgettable event for the people of Shanghai and sports fans in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.”

In addition, on August 19 and 20, coaches from Duke and Georgetown universities will run the so called basketball clinics to help young players learn new skills and improve their technique. Duke University will compete with the Chinese National Pre-Olympic Team in a scrimmage, and Georgetown University will fight against the Liaoning Men’s Basketball Team in an exhibition game.

Nike has just accepted the Greenpeace’s Detox challenge, which was initiated because of the water pollution scandal in China.
