Nokia announced in its blog that in 2011, it would be collaborating wih Burton Snowboards, the world’s leader in snowboard manufacturing, to perform a revolution in this sport and create what it calls ‘connected snowboarding’.
Nokia Push project was launched back in 2009 with the aim to bring up-to-date digital features to the street sports with help of cutting-edge mobile technology delivered by Nokia N8. In course of the project, Nokia brought its technological experience into skating, aerial photographing, city guides and more.
«Work has already started between Nokia and Burton, and the collaboration will be run in the spirit of the Push project – transparently, and openly in beta», Nokia reports in its blog.
The digital solution offered by Nokia Push project includes special sensors that track every move of a snowboarder and, of course, Nokia N8 phone with a special app that allows tracking the progress and parameters of every move and snowboarding tricks. By analyzing the information received, the application displays score for the tricks performed, which can further be shared with friends on Facebook or Twitter.
«In five years’ time in snowboarding, we hope everyone will have this kit. And what we want to do is turn all of the world’s mountains into playgrounds», said Stuart Wells, one of the Nokia Push project developers.
The first results of Nokia Push Burton project will be revealed during Burton Euro Open in January, followed by a beta launch at the US Open in March.
