Panasonic to Arrange a Global Earth Lunch Hour

Panasonic is inviting all eco-conscious people for a lunch. The global electronics manufacturer is encouraging all green-minded individuals to join its employees during Earth Lunch Hour and share their thoughts on how to make every-day routines connected to the ‘food’ theme more environmentally friendly.

The global one-day long conversation is slated to start in Japan at 11 am on October 6 and then to roll out in Asia, India, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Central America, North America, and Oceania. After going around the world, it will finish in Japan at 11 am on October 7. The company will connect its plants’ staff worldwide as well as people who signed up for the digital event at the www.earthlunchhour.net, which will be broadcast through Ustream, with the main off-line venue being Japan’s Panasonic Center, located in Tokyo.

The participants are encouraged to share their tips on improving food-related activities and attitude towards meals to reach green goals and submit their recipes with no-waste ingredients, tips on how to preserve products and deal with leftovers, on how to select products and clear up the table. The event is also supported by a Twitter stream, @EarthLunchHour, which provides participants with recent updates and related news. Panasonic asks to submit valuable recipes and kitchen hacks to www.eco-ideas.net/kitchen/, and the best of them will be featured in the Tokyo off-line meeting, dubbed Eco Cook Fest 24, where they will be showcased and tried during a 24-hour broadcast on Ustream.

The supporters of the green movement can also share their eco-lunch hour by sending photos, messages or even streaming a video of their lunch ceremony on their own channel on Ustream to include their video into the global lunch hour. The initiative comes as part of the Panasonic ‘eco ideas’ Forum 2010 to be held on October 6-9 in Tokyo. Through implementing a number of green projects, the company is moving toward the goal of becoming the No.1 Green Innovation Company in the Electronics Industry by 2018 (the year when Panasonic was founded) and help people around the world enjoy a more eco-friendly life.
