Pernod Absinthe Announces 2011 ‘Creator of Art’ Contest Winners

February is almost over. As promised, Pernod Absinthe announces the names of 2011 ‘Creator of Art’ Contest.

‘Creator of Art’ is a contest for talented artists, photographers and illustrators organized by alcohol brand Pernod Absinthe and held annually on the Facebook page. The masters of painting and photo as well as digital artists were asked to submit their graphics incorporating 1805, since this is the year of foundation of the Pernod Fils distilling facility.

On February 24 the brand officially announced 2012 contest winners. So, the first prize (in the amount of $1,805) goes to Meghan Leininger. She has created a photo entitled «Fireworks.» Describing her work, the winner said: «Absinthe creates a beautiful blue flame when lit and creates bursts of energy, life and excitement, similar to that of fireworks.»

The second prize is awarded to Brandon Antczak for his illustration dubbed ‘A Portion from a Surreal Deck of Cards.’ «I created this hand tinted transfer drawing that portrays the louche process of drinking Absinthe. Each card is a step along this absinthe ritual. I wanted the drawings to create parallels to transformations. For instance, water poured over the shot of absinthe acts as a solvent liberating the essential oils from the liquor. My process for creating this work also involved a solvent to free the ink so it could be drawn from one surface to another. To further stimulate the viewer I concentrated on juxtapositions. Chromatic colors such as the reds and blues scintillate amidst the bold white frames and their tonal interiors».

The third prize in the amount of $750 goes to Charles Harrigan, a U.S.-based artist for his painting entitled ‘1805’ that was conceived and created Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), which was founded in 1805 just as well as the spirit brand.
