Customer Satisfaction vs Eco-friendliness: Solution on Chips Package from Frito-Lay

Frito-Lay has come up with the solution to the striking issue it has been fighting over for the last 9 months. Following the noisy launch of its 100% compostable chips package, the product sales dropped by 11%, which forced the brand to take the product in the noisy package off the shelves.

The new eco-friendly package turned out to cause a great 95-decibell noise (same as the noise produced by a motorcycle), which pushed the customers off. In order to protest against the effect of the innovative package, Frito-Lay fans created a Facebook  group dubbed “Sorry but I can’t hear you over this SunChips bag”. However, these days the company announced that it had found the solution. A simple rubbery adhesive placed between the layers of the package can cut its sound to 70 decibels. Original SunChips packaged in the ‘calmer’ version of the biodegradable bags are now hitting the stores. If this version of the package proves to gain popularity, the brand will use this package for the rest of the products in Frito-Lay lineup. So, at the moment the producer is waiting for the customers’ feedback.
