Philips Introduces New LED Luminaries, while Coca-Cola Promotes LED Lighting in Vending Machines

Philips introduces the new UrbanScape and MetroScape outdoor LED luminaries. The broad line-up of Philips LED-range offer cities sustainable, energy-efficient solutions with all the benefits of Philips LUXEON high-power light emitting diodes (LEDs).

New UrbanScape and MetroScape can reduce energy consumption by 40—60 percent over High Intensity Discharge (HID) alternatives and provide a rated life of 100,000 hours.

UrbanScape has contemporary minimalistic design created to fit urban projects. In contrast, MetroScape is a stylish retro luminaire designed with the latest technologies. Both offer optical systems composed of high performance acrylic refractor lenses which provide pole spacing up to 7 times the mounting height.

Both luminaries are made using innovative Philips technologies such as industry leading LUXEON LEDs, which provide lumen maintenance and Xitanium drivers, which controls the power provided to the LEDs. Both technologies ensure longer useful life, intensity and light quality of luminaries.

LEDs are available in different configurations. This helps to ensure that light levels and meet the application requirements. For architects and municipalities it means better light rendering and more cost-efficient solutions.

Both systems are made of sustainable materials and are 80% recyclable at end-of-life.

In July, Philips introduced another lighting innovation—luminarious textile.

In the meantime, Coca-Cola Japan and its 12 bottling partners have determined to install vending machines employing LED lighting in product displays for all new purchases of machines for beverage products in cans and PET bottles, starting from 2012. This decision supports the Coca-Cola’s global business guiding principle, ‘Live Positively,’ and is a part of its sustainability initiatives.

In addition, Coca-Cola has been actively innovated its vending machines. The company has introduced energy-saving technologies and equipped the machines with a ‘social contribution’ option for disaster relief and donation. Other efforts include the prevention of global warming through its promotion of HFC-free models and introducing machines with solar panels and green roof tops.
