Roman Polanski Directed a ‘Psychological’ Ironic Commercial for Prada

The Cannes Films Festival is a huge event for both cinema world and the world of consumer brands, which is proved by numerous festival-related campaigns, brand promotions and long-time sponsorships. Some brands do not only launch campaigns and products dedicated to the event, but also tap recognized filmmakers to create short films to be showed at the festival. This year, Prada teamed up with notorious film director Roman Polanski to shoot a short film/commercial starring starting Helena Bonham Carter and Oscar winner Sir Ben Kingsley, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival last week.

In the three-minute film titled ‘A Therapy,’ Kingsley is a therapist and Bonham Carter is a patient, a rich but lonely lady who comes to the therapy session to tell about the thoughts, which disturb her. But the shrink pays much more attention to the opulent lavender Prada fur coat, in which his patient arrived, he looks at it all the time. The coat seduces the doctor and finally he puts it on and poses in this upscale coat in front of the mirror, while his patient is sharing her fears lying on the coach. The spot finishes with the undisputable statement “Prada Suits Everyone.”

A game, a thought, that through friendship and mutual respect has become true. When I was asked to shoot a short film for Prada, I didn’t think that I could really be myself, but the reality is that in the total freedom I was given, I had the opportunity to reunite my favourite group of people and just have fun. The chance to dwell on what the fashion world represents nowadays and the fact that it is accompanied by so many stereotypes is fascinating and at the same time a bit upsetting, but you definitely can’t ignore it. It’s very refreshing to know that there are still places open to irony and whit an, for sure, Prada is one of them,” commented Roman Polanski on the collaboration on the official website of the brand.
