Some musicians start their career in the underground, and some of them come to the metro in the twilight of their professional lives. This November, both of them will be given a chance to demonstrate their unique talent at a huge international event arranged by Red Bull and attract the biggest audience they might have ever seen in their life. Some of the best so-called buskers, or subway musicians, from all over the world will head to Red Bull Sounderground—the first International Festival of Underground Station Musicians, hosted in the hot and rhythmic city of São Paulo, Brazil.
Buskers from New York, Barcelona, Paris, Mexico City, Berlin, Montreal, Moscow, St. Petersburg or London, who want to leave their local metro stations and show their skills in front of a capacious audience, are invited take part in the cyber castings for the upcoming festival. To become one of the possible winners, who will be invited to the event, each of the entrants is to download the application form on www.redbullsounderground.com, complete and submit it online together with a short video or a link to it on the Internet featuring his or her 1-3 minute performance (solo or band of 2-3 people) at their subway station.
The submission period is open from August 2 through September 15. When it’ll be over, the panel of music experts will choose the best ones and invite them to perform at the grand event. The names of the winners will be posted on the website on September 24, 2010.
The festival, which will be running for five days, from November 8 to November 12, will feature daily performances at a variety of venues including underground stations across São Paulo. The closing show on November 12 will gather all participating musicians from the biggest capitals of the world for an unprecedented performance at Sé Station—the most traveled subway station in the city.
