People who do good to their communities must be provided with great coffee that can help these activists ‘recharge the batteries.’ In late March, Seattle’s Best Coffee, which recognizes the importance of providing volunteers with high-quality coffee, introduced the Brew-lanthropy Project, allowing their fans to nominate and choose the recipient of the second-ever Brew-lanthropy Award for volunteers (the first one was named at the launch of the program—it was the Blackstone Bicycle Works nonprofit). The public voting on Facebook ended on May 18, and yesterday the brand announced the winner: it is the faculty of Greene County Middle School in Snow Hill, NC, which got the most votes and so will recieve support from the brand.
This school got heavily damaged on April 16 in a tornado that destroyed over two thirds of the building, damaged the teaching equipment and books, leaving 800 students without a possibility to continue their studies in the building (see the whole story in the video below). For the period of the reconstruction works, the middle school students has their classes at Greene Central High School, and faculty of Greene County Middle School continued their work with the kids in the new interiors.
To support the teaching stuff, the coffee brand provides the faculty of Greene County Middle School, the next recipient of its recently-launched award, with a year’s worth of Seattle’s Best Coffee and brewing equipment plus a $5,000 donation. Coffee tastes even better in a cozy and cute environment, so the brand also invited HGTV’s ‘Design on a Dime’ star Frank Fontana to create a mobile makeover for the recreational room, where the teaching stuff is sipping their coffee during the breaks. The revamped interiors will be moved to the new school when the reconstruction is finished.
“Our mission is to provide great coffee anywhere it’s needed, and the Brew-lanthropy Project is a way to extend that mission,” said Michelle Gass, president, Seattle’s Best Coffee. “We admire the optimism of the Greene County Middle School faculty as they courageously transform their community during these extraordinarily trying times. Providing the staff with a great cup of coffee is just one simple way we can help make their tough tasks a little easier.”
