Sprite has launched a competition for younger generation of its creative-minded consumers, who want to make a first step in cinematography by collaborating with recognized professionals of the industry. The soft drink brand is offering U.S. university students of (18 years of age or older) an opportunity to explore their scriptwriting talent and gives teens aged 13-19 a chance to become a member of the crew, which will make a short film based on selected scripts with professional filmmakers and celebrities (so far, their names are kept secret).
Through the Sprite Refreshing Films competition (which has nothing in common with Pepsi Refresh Project) the brand is inviting university students to submit an original “invigorating, inspirational, active, real” script of 5-15 pages until November 30 for a chance to become one of six finalists to be announced on January 28. Their scripts will be produced and developed for seven days by a filmmaking crew of up to 10 professionals (the finalists will be included into the production team as well). The results of the creative collaborations will be unveiled on the project’s website for public and industry judges to vote from April 1 to May 31. The winning pro-quality movie will be screened at a major film festival—a huge step for the aspiring filmmaker and his or her career in this sphere.
Sprite offers three ways to get involved into the project: to send a script, to become a volunteering member of a film crew in Atlanta, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami or Dallas and become a part of the filmmaking process or paid staff interns, aged 18-25 (acting directors, producers, tech directors and behind the scenes documentarians). The application forms as well as the detailed description of the rules can be found on the website of the project.
