At the College’s graduation ceremony, where she received an Honorary Fellowship, Stella said that her own time as a student at Central Saint Martins was «life-changing.»

«To get to a College like this is so hard for so many talented young people. For that reason, I am setting up this scholarship and I encourage other fortunate fashion houses to do the same,» she said.

UK, EU and international MA Fashion students will be able to receive the Stella McCartney Scholarship based on their academic excellence. The scholarship will also include a one year paid placement working at Stella McCartney fashion house. The necessary rule for receiving the scholarship is a commitment not to use fur, leather or harm animals in any other way as they develop their designs.

Professor Jane Rapley OBE, Head of Central Saint Martins, said: «Stella has long been a huge supporter of Central Saint Martins, but she has really taken our breath away with this immensely generous funding. She is a perfect example of how innate talent can be unlocked and nurtured by a creative education. She also shows why it’s vital that we do so — her work underpins the UK’s standing as the world’s creative capital, which is as crucial to our economy as it is to our reputation.»

Stella McCartney who is known for its longtime collaboration with adidas opened the first adidas by Stella McCartney store in London in May. She has also designed the uniform for the UK Olympics team.
