“First we’ll make customers cold, and then we’ll make them hot”, that’s what the Absolut Icebar’s creators wanted to do when decided to open a great bar with only pure ice and alcohol inside it. The temperature there is chilled to a constant -5°C/ 23°F, and it totally refreshes all your senses.
The pioneer of the line was opened in 1994, and since the beginning more than 1,000,000 people have visited the experimental bar. The interiors are supposed to change twice a year, and today, after almost a week of waiting, you can see the new design by Sofi Ruotsalainen and Nille Nilsson, who made the place look like a cave of some snow queen.
Except for the alcohol there you can buy a non-melting replica glass, a warm puffy jacket of a laptop sleeve, matches, pillows and other trifles. And when you get cold after wandering along wall-to-wall ice corridors and pushing the bright and luring “Don’t push” button, you can go to the bartender and ask him to give you a shot of the hot product with the bar’s name.
It is one of 3 cold bars on the planet. The first is in the Ice Hotel, the second one is this in the Nordic Sea Hotel (open year round), and the third bar is located in Below Zero London. Decide which spot is nearer and buy tickets. It’is really worth the time and effort to get there and have a nice warming drink.
