Twitter Revamps Its Logo to Become a Flying Network

Twitter yesterday rolled out its revamped bird—a recognizable symbol of the second most popular social platform in the world. The new bird looks more simplified and sleek and Twitter said that from now on it will be the only one symbol for its network—no text, no ‘T’ and no bubbled typefaces will be utilized to present Twitter in the future.

According to Doug Bowman, Twitter Creative Director, the new bird grows out of love for ornithology, design within creative constraints, and simple geometry.

It means that the new bird is inspired by three sets of overlapping circles—with an added beak and little wings. Bowman says in a blogpost that it’s “similar to how your networks, interests and ideas connect and intersect with peers and friends”. The blue color remains unchanged, to express connection to the sky, probably.

The myth of the meaning of this symbol is also discredited as for Twitter the bird is chosen not for making tweets but for more significant reasons.

“Whether soaring high above the earth to take in a broad view, or flocking with other birds to achieve a common purpose, a bird in flight is the ultimate representation of freedom, hope and limitless possibility,” says Bowman.

To facilitate and improve its network for brands promoting themselves on it, Twitter rolled out more features for brand pages earlier this year.
