Umbro to Unveil a Range Inspired by a ‘Clash’ of Mini-Football Versions

Does the nature of football remain unchanged in the small-scale variations of the game. Umbro is sure that it does. To pay a tribute to 5-a-side football and futsal, the sportswear label is launching its brand-new range Versus and released  a series of animated cartoons, revealing the latent ‘rivalry’ between fans of the two versions.

The collection will come to the stores on August 30, and to pass away time while waiting for the launch, fans are invited to the official Umbro page, where they can watch animated stories. The clips demonstrate how these games, which have striking similarities as well as a bunch of differences, are treated in their native countries (England and Brazil). “5-a-side is a very English game, whilst futsal has a Brazilian flair, so we spoke to players in Manchester and São Paulo to get their thoughts on the culture that surrounds and inspires their particular game,” explains Aaron (no family name provided), the brand’s representative, in his recent post on the brand’s blog.

The spots, which are highlighting the so-called rivalry, were created by legendary street artist and cartoonist Todd James (aka Reas). Now the Umbro official website features 10 of them, with “plenty of these fantastic cartoon clips for you” to come “over the next couple of weeks.” Visitors to the page click on one of the characters on the pitch and either “watch the video” (it can also be sent over to a friend) or “check out gear” (one item from the new range).
