Versace to Design Collection for H&M This Autumn

Swedish budget clothing retailer H&M announced yesterday that its Fall 2011 Collection will be designed together with grand fashion brand, Versace. New collection will go on sale November, 19, 2011 in around 300 stores worldwide, as well as online.

Actually, Versace will be the latest fashion house that collaborates with H&M, following Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Comme des Garcons, Jimmy Choo and most recently, Lanvin. All of them got huge media splash in the past, raising H&M sales and ravenue (last fall, the retailer launched a great ‘guess who’ campaign featuring ‘desguised representatives’ of the fashion brands).

Coming collection will be personally made by Donatella Versace, who will focus on the brand’s past, featuring ‘iconic Versace pieces’ from leather, print, colour and exclusive materials, but at the same time at affordable H&M prices. «I am thrilled to be collaborating with H&M and to have the opportunity of reaching their wide audience. The collection will be quintessential Versace, perfect for H&M and Versace fans everywhere,» says Donatella Versace in the press release.

The women’s collection will feature silk and colourful prints, including high heels and costume jewellery. The men’s collection will focus on sharp tailoring, including the perfect tuxedo belts and jewellery. There will also be Versace by H&M home furnishings, such as cushions and a bedspread.

«Versace is one of the most important brands of recent times, and their collection for H&M will be glamorous and flamboyant—everything Versace stands for,” says Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M, according to guardian.co.uk.

One can assume that Swedish fashion giant is looking for the sales boost for the Christmas period, with the help of glamorous Donatella. Usually, it happens and gives short-term sales rise since such collections are limited and sold out in a few days. It’s still a great advertising tool to attract attention to the clothing chain and improve its image in the long run.
