Volkswagen is using dance to push its Polo range. Yesterday, November 10, the automobile maker released a commercial, starring Argentinian Tango champions, to promote its vehicles as chick and safe cars, which can impress consumers both its beauty and reliability. The advert, which was developed by DDB UK and aired on British channels, features “Tough. Beautiful. Polo.” strapline.
The company is going to launch a massive social media activity, which includes making of and behind the scenes footage, to support the launch of the expressive advert, in which Argentinean Tango world champion Gasper Godoy and his partner Manuella Rossi, the world number two, are performing a hot dance to Roc C’s “Don’t Stop.” The spot dubbed “Last Tango in Compton” was directed by Jonathan Glazer, whose credits include the Guinness Surfer, Sony Paint and Levi’s Odyssey campaigns.
The 1-minute video was shot in north London with a simultaneous set-up of over 20 different camera’s following every step and move of the hilarious couple. The upcoming extensions of the campaign will most likely appear on the brand’s YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/user/UKVolkswagen, which also features spots from the previously launched projects, one of which is the movie fans oriented “See film differently” initiative, kicked off last month.
