Walmart Has Launched a Crowdsourcing Contest to Find the Next Great Product

Modern supermarkets seem to have just everything you may want, but still there’s a plethora of newly invented goods, which are not sold there—yet. Walmart is giving its consumers a truly one-of-a-kind opportunity to sell their own products in select retailer’s stores across the USA and through Walmart.com. The ‘Get on the Shelf’ competition, headed by @WalmartLabs, the company’s digital technology division, will be rolling out until February 22—entrants are invited to introduce their own inventions (they should to relate to one of the Walmart categories, ranging from apparel, electronics, toys and more) in their videos.

«Walmart has the best products at everyday low prices but we know there are some great undiscovered products that have not yet reached our shelves. For a long time, the ability to get a product into a retail store was at the sole discretion of the store buyer. Today, we are removing these barriers by giving anyone a chance to launch their product at Walmart and reach millions of shoppers nationwide,» commented Venky Harinarayan, senior vice president of Walmart Global e-commerce and co-head of @WalmartLabs.

Visitors to the online destination will vote for these products in two rounds, from March 7 through April 4 (then ten finalists will be determined) and from April 11 till April 24 (to select top three entrants and the grand prize winner). Walmart will sell the inventions developed by three top finalists on Walmart.com and will also provide shelf space to the winning product at a range of its brick and mortar stores across the country.

So far, the entries include Sliderties—Instructional Shoelace Tying System, Hydro Saucer toy for your, iPad Carrying Case with a strap, and many more—find them all at www.getontheshelf.com and add your own if you are a U.S. citizen and have designed a new product that is really useful and is worth being distributed across the nation.
