On June 5, 2010, during the Open Day an awards ceremony was held for the winners of Karim Rashid Inspiration competition. The latter was organised by ASUS in collaboration with British High School of Arts and Design. Five students of the Industrial Design course received three main prizes and two People’s Choice awards.
It is worth reminding that a group of students of the Product Design course tutored by Prof. Umberto Giraudo designed a series of products (mouse, headphones, headset, power adaptor) to accompany an existing line of laptops designed by Karim Rashid. The project was officially introduced as an assignment for BHSAD students on March 15 and was concluded on June 1. Prototypes and drafts of the projects were presented at the End of the Year Exhibition on June 5-8.
A jury consisting of two ASUS Russia representatives, two ASUS headquarters representatives and two Industrial Design tutors from BHSAD named the three winners. Another two People’s Choice awards were distributed by popular vote.
The three winners are the following:
• 1st prize — Ekaterina Pashinova for designing a headset and a USB storage device received a powerful gaming laptop ASUS G51J-3D
• 2nd prize – Igor Chasovskoy for designing a computer mouse received a netbook ASUS Eee PC Karim Rashid Collection
• 3rd prize – Margarita Kartashova for designing a laptop bag received a sophisticated display ASUS MS236H
People’s Choice awards were given to Anton Barkalov and Evgeny Mendygaliyev. They received ASUS HDP-R1 mediaplayers.
The School’s administration and ASUS would like to thank all participants of the project. It is also worth mentioning that most design solutions are functionally viable and might be entering mass production soon.
