Xbox Live’s Project “The Music Room” Will Allow Viewers to Influence the Course of the Show

Microsoft is announcing a new interactive TV project, “The Music Room,” for the Xbox console that will let the audience edit the show in real-time. The project will come in two short parts and will invite Xbox Live subscribers to vote for how the show will be unfolding.

The “Live+Exclusive” show will have Laura Jackson as the host and Carl Barat, formerly one of the Libertines’s frontmen, as The Music Room special guest. Additionally, the project will feature must-see performances from indie British bands including Swim Deep, Don Broco and Everything Everything. The show is slated for May 29 at 20.30 BST, and will invite the audience to shape the format of what’s going to be on the screen.

The viewers, which will be watching the interviews and acts live and loud in their living-rooms, will be encouraged to select from the list of options, determining the course of the show. For instance, Laura Jackson will ask them what she should do next, play Dance Central 3, sneak into the soundcheck or nose around the backstage. This all will be like a “choose-your-own-adventure” musical experience.

Earlier this year, Microsoft committed to put “100 percent of its focus on consumer TV strategy with Xbox.” Today, May 21, the company is hosting its New Generation Xbox event, which will culminate in some “special unveiling.”
