2011 Epica Awards: And the Winners are…

Complete results of the 2011 Europe’s Premier Creative Awards, Epica Awards were announced at the official website of the award during the last week of November. Epica’s aim is to reward outstanding creativity and help communication agencies, film production companies, media consultancies, photographers and design studios to develop their reputations across Europe and the EMEA region.

A total of 75 Epica winners were selected in 2011, including the 4 grand prix. There were 151 silver and 162 bronze awards.This gave a grand total of 388 awards; 17% more than the previous year, reflecting the increased number of entries and the introduction of four new categories. Winners were named in all categories except Alcoholic Drinks (print) and Professional Products (film).

Here are some of the highlights of 2011 Epica Awards:

—The film Epica d’Or was won by Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam for the Heineken “Open your World” campaign (“The Entrance” and “The Date”), produced by Sonny London and directed by Fredrik Bond.

—The press Epica d’Or was won by Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett, Zurich for the Swiss Life, “Life’s Turns in a Sentence” campaign.

—The outdoor Epica d’Or went to Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R for the Land Rover Defender “Passport Stamps” poster.

—The interactive Epica d’Or was won by Jung von Matt Stockholm for the “Mini Getaway” operation.

McCann Erickson, Bucharest won the integrated campaigns category with “American Rom”.

—Germany topped the country rankings with a total of 89 awards, including 15 category winners.

Forsman & Bodenfors, Gothenburg was the most successful entrant for the second year in a row with 18 awards, including two winners.

Y&R and Wieden+Kennedy shared top network honours, both with 5 winners from 2 countries, including one grand prix each. 589 companies from 48 countries participated in the awards with a total of 3,739 entries (+18.5% vs 2010).

The Epica awards ceremony and European Creative Conference will take place in Ljubljana. It will be held at the Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture on January 20, 2012. A full programme of speakers and topics will be announced shortly. The event will be hosted by Slovenia’s MM magazine.

Full results of the 2011 awards will be published in the 25th annual Epica Book that all entrants will receive in August 2012. All the winners will be shown in the book, together with a selection of other high-scoring entries. All entrants will also receive the 2011/12 Epica DVD during the first quarter of 2012.
