Absolut Purité by Paul Graves: Purity in the Mirror

The Absolut brand has been a source of inspiration for a plethora of creative minds since it was introduced in 1979. For over three decades, it has become the most artistic vodka of all times with a range of paintings, installations, art projects, photo sessions and gorgeous advertising campaigns being created to celebrate Absolut’s nature. Recently, Paul Graves, the famed photographer), has joined the ranks of cult art personalities by presenting his vision of the iconic vodka, reflected in a numerous pieces of mirror.

Graves, who has collaborated with the Hermès luxury brand, GQ France and Elle magazines (for the later, he created a hilarious series of stills featuring re-imagined fragrance bottles) to name a few, teamed up with TBWA/Being to unveil a photo work, in which the famous bottle of Absolut unflavored vodka got visually multiplied.  He placed it among triangular and rectangular pieces of coloured mirror to create a story entitled ‘Absolut Purity’ (Absolut Purité) to highlight the drink’s unique personality once more. The making-of was produced by Cats & Dogs—watch the video below to see how the new art-infused advertising piece was created (which is a real pleasure to watch).

This is not the first art project under this name. In May 2010, Dan Tobin Smith, who has also worked with such alcohol brands as Bacardi, Ballantine’s, Malibu and more, created a clip featuring the process of making the product, using somewhat scientific tone in his narration. In his video, viewers are taken into ‘the laboratory’ to see how one of the best vodkas is born.
