adidas Has Released an App with 3D Image Recognition Software

Today, iPhone applications provide us with tips in a variety of areas, starting from recycling to clothing. To receive information, users usually scan QR-codes or barcodes or snap a photo, which are then processed by the app—adidas Originals came up with a revolutionary solution in this area, launching an app with a 3D touch. The brand has released an app with special 3D image recognition software for real-life objects/products, which is the first time the three-dimension technology got into the application development industry.

Once a user has taken a photo of the shoes he or she is wearing at the moment, the application will choose the best matching pair from its range and show the closest adidas store (within 50 km) where the suggested footwear can be purchased. It will also invite to look at other offerings from the brand’s product catalogue by spinning the products around in a 360 degree view, and join the community of 10.62 million fans on the adidas Originals Facebook page, where they can get timely updates on new products and promotions.

Users take a photo of a sneaker, and the application responds with the closest, most relevant matches based on the colour of the input image. This gives consumers the chance to find the best replacement for their favourite old sneakers, to find adidas sneakers most similar to shoes that might have caught their eye somewhere, or to simply play around and explore the different styles of adidas Originals sneakers in a fun way,” explains the press release. The free application, first presented in public during the Lollapalooza 2011 Festival in Chicago (USA, August 5-7), is available from August 5 “through select iTunes markets including the United States, Japan and the United Kingdom” as reported by hypebeast.com.
