Apple iPhone 4: “I can’t believe this is real. I can’t believe this is actually happening”

Yesterday Apple shook the world again with their new product – iPhone 4 which is sure to change the way we read and communicate even today as we continue to live on our oversaturated social-media planet.

SAN FRANCISCO, June 7 – Following rather intriguing D8 conference with Steve Jobs last week, the Apple CEO unveiled iPhone 4 at the classical Apple’s WWDC event yesterday. The new product from Apple features much more innovations and technological leaps than the entire iPhone lineup so far.

But what do all these 100 new iPhone features mean to us as mere mortals? And how do our well-established reading habits and communication traditions change as a result? Let’s have a look at the three most striking features of the new iPhone 4 only.

For starters, the 4-times higher resolution display (called ‘Retina’) makes the screen even crisper, more pleasing to your eyes and less tiring, if you read a quite a bit on your iPhone. This is the highest-resolution screen ever on a phone, which will read like a book, according to the Apple CEO. The first iPhone 4 customers are scheduled to lay their hands on the phone on June 24 – and we’ll see if the reading experience on the phone improves as presented.

In addition, Apple has finally allowed users to install the artful and now famous iBooks app on iPhone, packed with full PDF, support as well. This does not necessarily blow away the current e-books market, but taking into account the Apple’s iBooks Store, which only continues to grow and prosper, our reading habits will undergo some positive changes in the coming years, let alone brick-and-mortar publishers as authors are getting more freedom.

Another huge killer feature of the new iPhone is FaceTime. With this app, users can now do video calls over Wi-Fi network only, no cellular connection or Skype required. The iPhone 4 has two cameras plugged-in – one up in front and the other at the rear. So, you can start the video call, and with only one tap of your finger show what you’re seeing around to your respondent as the cameras simply switch.

FaceTime will change the way we communicate. Video calls will be so much easier and they will definitely connect people. Just image talking to your kids on FaceTime while you’re away some reason – you see their emotions; you see how they’re doing. This app is so easy-to-use and so convenient that the video-call idea becomes, therefore, reinvented and so much longed for.

At the conference, Steve Jobs also announced iMovie, created especially for iPhone 4. Combined with HD video capability, built-in LED light and smart editing software, iPhone 4 allows shooting videos in almost perfect quality even in dark settings, while iMovie gives you an opportunity to use themes, trim your video and add effects – making your product sweeter.

This is not the revolutionary feature per se, as video capturing was introduced before with iPhone 3GS. However, the higher quality of the video produced and new editing possibilities will make video shooting more fun and more creative now. YouTube video collection will double, if not triple.

The new piece of glass and metal from Apple will bring back true emotions from talking to each other on the phone and might refine and redefine our social media identities.

Needless to say, Apple just continues to excite us with what they do. It is exciting to watch Greg Joswiak, Vice President for iPhone Product Marketing, describe his iPhone 4 experience as: “I can’t believe this is real. I can’t believe this is actually happening.” And this excitement is contagious. But will the new iPhone 4 user experiences live up to this hype?

Let’s wait and see.
